Shailaja Suresh Kumar (alias Shailu)

Profile

Shailu Suresh is the Chief of Digital Health Practice at the NUS-ISS. With 25 years of collective work experience in Singapore and India, in various fields, such as wet bench research, research management, lecturing, hospital operations and management, in both private and public healthcare sectors,

Shailu has more than 14 years of working experience in the healthcare and biomedical sciences domain in Singapore. She has held senior management and administrative posts at various government and statutory boards including overseeing hospital operations for 4 years at Mount Elizabeth hospital and heading Gleneagles hospitals in Bangalore, India, as the CEO for 2 years. In her role as the CEO for the hospitals in India, she was also engaged in training the hospital staff in service excellence and productivity improvement, using tools such as Kaizen and 6-S.

Apart from hospital operations, during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, she led and managed the ground operations for Singapore’s Covid-19 National Testing and Operations Task Group as the Senior Deputy Director at Health Promotion Board. In this role, she had complete oversight of the swab operations’ end-to-end workflow and was in charge of the overall planning, developing standard operating procedures and co-ordinating with various whole of government (WOG) sector leads to ensure smooth swab operations throughout Singapore.

About 10 years of her working life has been in the areas of biomedical research and academics, teaching subjects such as Biochemistry, Human Anatomy and Physiology and Research Methodologies, at Nanyang Polytechinc and MDIS respectively.

Shailu and her team will be working towards accomplishing the Digital Health's mission of transforming the future experience of health through technology, data and design.
